Format:
This tournament consists of Qualifiers, a Group Stage, and a Bracket Stage.
The Qualifiers consist of a group of races that are open to the public. Players may race in any number of qualifiers and only the top 3 scores (lowest times) for each player will count towards their total score. The score for each race will be the time it takes to complete the race. Qualifiers are optional, if a player plays in less than 3 races then the worst overall score will be added to that player's total for each race less than 3 that they participated in. Only the top 16 players in the qualifier stage will qualify for the Group Stage.
Note: DNFs in a race will see the highest finishing score, plus 15 minutes, as their DNF score.
In the Group Stage the top 16 performing players from the Qualifier Stage will be split into 4 pods (A, B, C, D - filled in snake style). In the case of a tie in the Qualifier Stage the player with the fastest single completion of a Qualifier Stage race will be ranked above players with slower fastest times. Each player must race each of the other 3 players in their pod in a best of 3 match by the end of the Group Stage (16 Sept 11:59PM EDT). Players are responsible for contacting each opponent, scheduling a time, and submitting that time to the SpeedGaming site. Players who do not make an effort to schedule with their opponent will be given a “Loss” for each incomplete match.
At the conclusion of the Group Stage, the top 2 players in each group (by number of match wins) will earn a slot in the Bracket Stage. In the event of a tie in a pod a group race within that pod will have to be scheduled to determine the 2 winners in that pod. A day is set aside to race the tie breaker match, but if scheduling does not allow the match to take place on this day, the players may race this match during the Group Stage if they finish all of their matches early.
The Bracket Round will consist of a single elimination top 8 bracket. The top 8 and top 4 matches will be best of 3 matches, whereas the finals will be a best of 5. The ordering of the bracket will be as follows:
Winner of Pod A vs Second Place of Pod D
Winner of Pod C vs Second Place of Pod B
Winner of Pod B vs Second Place of Pod C
Winner of Pod D vs Second Place of Pod A
The Flags:
The keen eyed among you may notice that there seems to be 2 duds in this flagset, but that is incorrect. For this tournament we are using a special rule: there will be 2 incentivised pieces of gear in every race that will be determined by the players racing them. At any point before the seed is rolled the higher seeded player (pod winners outrank pod second places and Pod A players outrank Pod D players) will choose an item to be incentivised and then the lower seeded player will choose a different piece of gear to also be incentivised - if you are feeling like thieves are the new META pick a Katana and if you are scared of ToFR maybe you pick up a RUSE Stick instead.
For the Qualifier races, or for tie breaker group races, the incentivised gear will be determined randomly by the seed roller before the seed is rolled - rolling of the gear can be done with a D12 in the Casino so that the public may verify the rolls.
