To play FFR you will need:
While there are many hardware and software solutions available to meet these needs, it is FFR policy to remind you all that you should own a legal copy of the original game, and we cannot endorse or link you to any of the aforementioned resources.
Once you have both of these pieces, you can head over to Final Fantasy Randomizer, set your individual flags
(or choose one of our fabulous preset flagsets, including from amongst our past tournaments),
and use the “Choose File” button to select your ROM file.
You can confirm the
before selecting “Generate ROM”.
If you have followed all steps successfully, a new file will be generated for download. Make sure your browser is allowing downloads from finalfantasyrandomizer.com or it will appear that nothing may have happened.
The flags, seed and FFR version must match exactly to generate the same game. The only exception is customization under “Fun%” which applies cosmetic changes only that do not affect game play.
When requesting help from others, making suggestions to play the particular randomization you have, and in race situations, players will need to verify that they did in-fact have the exact same version, flags and seed. This verification is done in game via a “Hash code” that is generated with the file and displayed on the “CONTINUE / NEW GAME” Screen.
The hash code is presented as a series of 8 characters that are various equipment types in the game. Possible hash codes include the following icons (with some of the alternate names people use):
Armor, Axe, Dagger (Knife), Bracelet (Ring, Circle, Cheerio), Gauntlet (Bonk, Glove), Hammer, Cloth (Shirt), Shield, Nunchaku (Chucks), Sword, Helm, Staff (Stick),
Popular streaming solutions include Streamlabs and OBS Studio.
These programs will allow you to set up “Scenes” in which you can add Text, Images, Video Capture Devices (typically a webcam), and most important, a Window Capture of your game screen.
