FFR Rando Marathon Summer 2025
In-Person Mini-Tourney
Rules & Guidance
Welcome to the 2025 FFR Rando Marathon Mini-Tournament. This tournament will be hosted live at the Rando Marathon event in Charleston, WV. Anyone coming to the event is welcome to participate, and there is no cost for entry or requirements other than to be there in person.
This is a for-fun event, with no cash on the line. It's sole to have fun and gain some bragging rights. If you are interested, please keep reading to see what all the event entails.
Please make sure to read the FFR General Rules & Guidance for Tournaments and Leagues, as well as these rules, before participating.
About the Tournament
The tournament itself will be a double-elimination (winners and losers) bracket consisting of 1v1 matches. All matches must be held during the three-day Marathon. There will be no qualifiers before the main event. Anyone that enters is put into the bracket, and everyone will be randomly seeded.
To enter, simply show up and be a registered attendee (with badge) for the Marathon. Put your name into the pool by 11:59 PM EDT on Thursday, June 12 to enter. At 11:59 PM EDT all entrants will be randomized and the bracket will be locked.
Once players are placed into brackets, games are win/lose only, and you play until you're out (or you win it all).
Tournament Structure:
Brackets
We will use a double-elimination bracket for the event. All players will be seeded in randomly. In the event we have an uneven number of players for a standard (8 players, 16 players, 32 players, etc.) bracket, the “top” seeds will get bye placement for the first race, and all other seeding will be adjusted accordingly to make the bracket “work”.
Races will be 1v1 and Best of 1 (Bo1) matches, including finals. There will be no Bronze Medal Match required.
As it is double-elim, losing players from the main bracket will be seeded into the “losers bracket” to face off against each other. A loss in the losers bracket will eliminate you from the event. At the end of the tournament, the finalists in the winners and losers brackets will face each other in the finals match to determine the overall winner.
Matches, except for finals, will not be broadcast. All matches will be tracked in Racetime.gg by the participating players.
The Flags
The tournament this year will use a single flagset for the whole event. It was voted on by the players and will not change during the course of the event. These flags are based on the Winter Tournament 2024 flags, with some modifications:
Notes for Players
You are allowed to use the Blurse Spoilers tool for these races.
Drafting and Other Allowances:
The party is not forced and open drafting (or four forced, aka 4ced) is allowed. In the case of back-and-forth drafting (aka dodge ball drafting), higher seed can choose to go first or second, and party choice would go 1-2-2-1 until the party is filled. Nones are only allowed in the draft if both players agree to it.
Additional Flag Changes Allowed During the Event:
Players may also choose to modify the flags with the below set of approved changes (and only this approved changes):
Out side of the finals match, players will gatekeep their own matches and report their wins/losses to an on-site admin for recording. We're working with the honor system for this event as the Marathon is going on as well and there will be a lot to keep track of.
Registration:
Registration (i.e., attendance and purchasing a badge) is required for the Marathon and all associated events. To register for the Mini-Tourney, once you are on site, find an on-site admin and let them know you'd like to participate in the tournament.
By signing up, you agree to be held to the Final Fantasy Randomizer Discord’s Code of Conduct while engaged as a participant of this event. Violations of the Code of Conduct may result in consequences ranging from a warning to bans from the discord, the tournament, and/or all further events.
Scheduling Matches:
The tournament bracket will be held on Challonge for scorekeeping purposes. We will have a scheduling sheet available during the event. All races will be streamed on SpeedGaming's channels, and will be placed on their scheduling form.
Because it's upper and lower brackets, please make sure to schedule your matches quickly and efficiently. Three hours is the expected turn around from knowing your opponent to having your match on the books, ready to go.
Broadcasting and Restreaming:
Finals will be restreamed as part of the Marathon. When you are being restreamed, the following Quality of Life flags will be required:
This request is to accommodate spectators who may be photosensitive. If you fail to make this accommodation, you will not be featured on future restreams unless you enable these features in your next race.
The Use of Trackers:
Throughout the the mini-tourney runners will be able to use trackers to help track key items and locations checked. Auto-tracking of locations is prohibited. Trackers which update entrances based on user input, though, are allowed.
Tournament Staff:
If you have any questions, feel free to shoot them at the FFR admins.
